Linux has captured more than 40% of the high-end server market and is increasingly popular as an end-user desktop system.
Users of Linux claim that the open-source nature of Linux makes it a more stable and secure operating system than other market competitors.
The Melbourne Install Fest is primarily aimed at end-users who are unfamiliar with Linux.
"We want to show that Linux is not just as good as other systems, but in fact better and easier to use", LUV President Andrew Chalmers said.
Other events in Melbourne on Software Freedom Day include a Bazaar at the Melbourne Town Hall organised by ComputerBank.
Individuals who want to have Linux installed should bring their computer on the day. Minimum
specifications and details are available on the LUV website at: http://www.luv.asn.au
