This talk will describe how the use of Linux with One-Wire bus sensors and controls can provide the smarts for an energy-efficient home. This will look at:

* Hardware for monitoring of temperature, the use of water, and the use and generation of energy;
* Wireless interfacing to smart meters;
* One-Wire bus and how it interfaces to Linux;
* How to switch devices using One-Wire bus;
* Controlling data collection;

MythTV is a free and open source home entertainment application with a simplified "10-foot user interface" design for the living-room TV, and turns a computer with the necessary hardware into a network streaming digital video recorder, a digital multimedia home entertainment system, or home theatre personal computer. It runs on various operating systems, primarily Linux, Mac OS X and FreeBSD.

This introduction to MythTV with live examples, will be presented by LUV Committee member Deb Henry.

Notice of LUV Annual General Meeting, 2nd September 2014, 19:00.

Linux Users of Victoria, Inc., registration number
A0040056C, will be holding its Annual General Meeting at
7pm on Tuesday, 2nd September 2014, in the Buzzard
Lecture Theatre, Trinity College.

The AGM will be held in conjunction with our usual
September Main Meeting. As is customary, after the AGM
business we will have a series of lightning talks by
members on a recent Linux experience or project.
